Bellator CEO, Bjorn Rebney has today revealed that he’s unsure what’s next for former lightweight champion, Eddie Alvarez as he approaches the end of his current deal with the breakout promotion, explaining they’re attempting to cut a deal with him but the lure of another place of work may be to great.
Rebney said:
“We’re talking to him; we’ll see what happens. We may cut a deal with Ed. We may not cut a deal with Ed. We’ve got about another five months left on our current relationship with Ed and another fight, so we may do
another fight with Ed. There’s a lot of different alternatives. … Right now our eye is on the ball with doing one more fight with Ed, but you never really know in a contractual situation like this.”
The UFC recently signed Bellator’s middleweight champion, Hector Lombard to a lucrative multi-fight contract and the Cuban native will headline the UFC on FOX 4 card later this year. Could they do a similar thing with Alvarez or even sign him up to Strikeforce where current champion, Gilbert Melenedez is desperate for a new challenge?
